Scope and Contents
This collection consists of four account books, one diary, a linen ABC book, receipt book (1868-1878), personal purchase receipt book (1861-1882) with signatures from various merchants in Lewisburg and Chester County, and account books itemizing his accounts with prominent Centre County grocers William and John Thompson. Also included are a diary (1891-1894) consisting mainly of weather and travel notes, correspondence (1888-1899), a northwest Pennsylvania soil map (1908), a folder of insurance policies, mortgages, deeds, warrants and agreements and a folder of bills, accounts, receipts, and transactions with prominent local merchants Thompson, Markle, Grove, Ross and Harris.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Theodore S. Christ, a surgeon and Civil War veteran, was the first physician and first mayor/burgess of State College, Pennsylvania. During the Civil War, he served as assistant surgeon in the 4th and 5th regiments of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. In 1863, he served as medical director on the staff of Maj. Gen. Robert B. Potter and was surgeon-in-chief of the Second Division, 9th A.C. In December of 1871, he married Sarah Irvin Thompson (1839-1887), daughter of Moses and Mary Irvin Thompson, and resided in Lemont, Pennsylvania, from 1881 to 1910.
